The Cork Carnival of Science will take place at Fitzgerald's Park on the 11th and 12th of June.

The carnival is set to amaze both young and old with 45 science based activities, ranging from a pop-up planetarium to a 40 foot inflatable walkthrough digestive system.

Carnival goers will also get the opportunity to try their hand at controlling mini robots and extracting DNA.

Interactive stands will be provided by professional research bodies in Cork such as Lifetime Lab, Analog Devices, UCC Chemistry, UCC School of BEES, UCC Virtual Labs, Munster Technological University, Tyndall, Fota Wildlife Park, and APC Microbiome Ireland to name but a few.

Director of Science for Society in Science Foundation Ireland, Dr. Ruth Freeman said:

"SFI is delighted to support the Cork Carnival of Science festival which promises unique opportunities to get up close and personal with all types of science from physics to chemistry, biology and more. If you know a curious young person who loves animals, nature, outer-space, dinosaurs or magic, there will be something of interest to bring science to life. The event will also highlight the important role of women in science and hopefully inspire more girls to consider a career in research."

Accessibility is a key focus at this years carnival, and organisers have consulted with the Deaf Community in Cork to ensure sign language interpretation will be available at all live shows and demonstrations.

The event is free to attend and will run over two days.
