The spotlight is on the foul smell at Kinsale's waste water treatment plant again after it was first raised by locals in August.
The Environmental Protection Agency inspected the plant at the start of August, on foot of the complaints and recommended that the odours at the plant should be addressed by Irish Water as an
"immediate and urgent priority".
The EPA reported that measures taken to date at the plant are "not sufficient to address the impact of the odour" and in particular noted that an open man hole at the top of the sludge holding tank was a cause of odour issue at the plant.
The report also questioned the capacity of the plant to cope with its intake, especially during the summer months.
In August, local residents in the Springmount Estate, Cappagh House and Rope Walk areas of Kinsale revealed how they are so frustrated with the lack of action that they have even considering moving out of the area due to the vile smell.
Irish Water is again being urged to urgently carry out a risk assessment and install ultraviolet disinfection at Kinsale waste water treatment plant.
