A delegation of locals from Kinsale are travelling to the Dáil today where they will present a petition to try and stop the development of a mussel farm in Kinsale Harbour.
Over 7,000 people have signed the petition opposing the mussel farm which would operate at a site just off the town’s only public beach.
Local resident and activist Marc O'Riain told RedFM News the Dock Beach is one of the town's only amenities and people are very passionate about it:
"We're going to meet Minister Timmy Dooley at 1.15pm and we're going to present the 700o signed petition to try and stop the mussell farm in Kinsale. 5,000 is the entire population, so 7,000 is a really strong message that no one in Kinsale wants this mussell farm."
