The jury at the trial of two men accused of the murder of Kieran Quilligan has heard about the examination of blood found on a number of items seized from the home of one of the accused.
33-year-old Niall Long, formerly of St Michael’s Close, Mahon, Cork and 27-year-old Luke Taylor, formerly of Cherry Lawn, Blackrock, Cork have both pleaded not guilty to murder.
Sarah Fleming from Forensic Science Ireland gave evidence about the examination of a number of items including a section of a black t-shirt found in a bucket with cleaning products taken from Niall Long’s home.
Ms Fleming said the DNA found on the wash care label of the t-shirt is 1,000 million times more likely to have come from Kieran Quilligan, Niall Long and a third unknown person, than it is to have come three unknown persons.
The jury also heard blood staining on the bristles of a red brush taken from the bucket matched that of Kieran Quilligan.
Ms Fleming also said a swab of blood from the boot of a car matched Kieran Quilligan’s DNA, and the blood present on a boot mat taken from the car matched the DNA of Mr Quilligan and Mr Long.
