Joint Policing Committee hears of increase in property crime in the city

Property crime in the city has increased by 61% in the first two months of the year, compared to the same period in 2022.

The figures from the Joint Policing Committee show a 100% decrease in reports of aggravated burglary but increases in 8 of the eleven other categories of property crime.

Incidents of non-aggravated burglary increased from 31 to 38 between the first of January and 28th of February.

The "interfering with a vehicle with intent to steal it or something in it" category saw a 209% increase

Theft from shops increased 78%, while the theft or unauthorised taking of a bicycle increased by 81% from 21 incidents to 38.
