Irish Water and Cork City Council wish to advise customers in the Old Youghal Road, Mayfield, Montenotte, Lotabeg, Silversprings, Ballyvolane and Rathcooney area’s that an essential water outage is required from 9pm this evening until 4am.

The essential works are required to replace a critical valve on a trunk main and could not be avoided.

The outage will potentially impact on upwards of approximately 5,000 customers in the area. The outage is expected to last approximately seven hours, however, It may take an additional two or three hours for supply to be fully restored to all customers. A map of the areas is attached.

Pat Britton, Water Operations Lead for Irish Water, said, “We would like to apologise for the short notice, but these are essential and unavoidable works to replace a crucial vale on a truck main on Old Youghal Road. There will be traffic management in place, but we hope this will cause minimal impact to road users and residents.

“As the water supply returns, there may be some temporary discolouration of water and occasionally issues such as internal airlocks. For helpful tips on what to do following an outage, including clearing airlocks, visit the Irish Water website at www.water.ie.“

“Irish Water understands the inconvenience when a planned outage occurs and thanks customers for their patience while we complete these essential works.”
