The rail link between the two cities is the busiest intercity line in the country.

The Echo is reporting today that the complaints involved incidents such as open illicit drug use, intimidation and verbal and physical assault.

The National Bus and Rail Union is repeating its call for the establishment of a dedicated Public Transport Policing Division within An Garda Síochána.

According to the paper, the General Secretary of the union, Dermot O'Leary says that the Cork-Dublin route has a reputation for anti-social behaviour;

So much so that NBRU members try to avoid people who habitually cause trouble on the route.

Irish Rail told the Echo that the 26 complaints are not representative of a typical customer experience on the Cork-Dublin line.
