The Irish Cancer Society is urgently seeking Cork-based Volunteer Drivers.

Volunteer Drivers, located across the county, are needed to bring cancer patients to and from their treatments in Cork hospitals.

Last year, the Irish Cancer Society provided 719 journeys for cancer patients in Cork and 13,035 journeys nationwide.

Speaking to RedFM News, the Irish Cancer Society's Volunteer Manager, Mary Quinn says that volunteer drivers help to ease the strain of travel on cancer patients:

"They really help us to provide a vital service for cancer patients. It can be a huge stress for cancer patients to figure out how they're going to get to their appointments. Particularly with chemo, you might feel quite unwell afterwards, and it's not suitable to be on public transport or to drive yourself. Because it's mid-week, often your family members are at work. So to have the worry taken away that you're definitely going to get their safety, you're not sharing the car with anyone else but the driver and you know that you'll be picked up on time and brought to your appointment, is a huge relief to our cancer patients".
