The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation have offered their sympathies to the family of Matthew Healy and have called for a full security audit of every Irish hospital.

The INMO say a security audit of hospitals has not been carried out since 2016 and are calling on the HSE to complete a full audit of the measures in place at each hospital.

INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha says their "thoughts and sympathies are with the families at the centre of yesterday morning's tragic incident”.

89 year old retired farmer, Matthew Healy from Berrings died at the Mercy University Hospital yesterday morning after he was violently assaulted in one of the hospital's general wards.
