An injunction preventing protestors from obstructing works at a building site in Macroom has been granted by Cork Circuit Court.

The Irish Examiner reports the interim injunction was granted by Judge Rosemary Horgan at Cork Circuit Court yesterday.

Gardaí were called to the site at Killarney Road, Lower Codrum, Macroom after protestors turned up at the seven house development.

The Irish Examiner reports that barrister Stephen O'Donoghue told the court, on behalf of Portlaw Development Ltd, that employees and contractors at the site had been "intimidated, threatened and obstructed", with one protestor lying on the ground behind a construction vehicle.

He told the court that some of the protestors had turned up wrapped in Irish flags after they presumed the homes were being completed to house Ukrainians.

Mr O' Donoghue also said the injunction would not be a curtailment of free speech after being asked about it by Judge Horgan.

The paper reports Judge Horgan granted the injunction preventing the defendants from; obstructing staff from entering or exiting the site, stopping the workers from carrying out work, entering or trespassing at the site and threatening, intimidating or insulting those working at the site.

The defendants will be able to respond to the injunction at the court next Thursday.
