The Society of St Vincent de Paul in Cork says it’s seeing a spike in calls from middle income earners who have never required help from the charity before.
Volunteers say the rising cost of groceries, fuel and energy bills are contributing to families' worries as Christmas approaches.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cormac O’Sullivan from SVP in Cork says the increase in new callers has led to an overwhelming number of calls to the charity so far this year:
"We're seeing families who wouldn't ever expected to call SVP, contacting. But just with the cost of energy, food, fuel, people are unfortunately struggling, which would contribute towards the amount of calls we're receiving."
