The housing crisis is forcing some women who are victims of domestic abuse to remain in violent situations
Marie Mulholland of West Cork Beacon says the housing crisis has drastically reduced the choices available for clients trying to leave dangerous living conditions
Demand for support services is at an all time high with more women coming forward to report their abuser
Speaking to RedFM News Marie Mullholland says women who break free from an abusive situation need to have somewhere to go after a refuge
"One of the areas that we find particularly challenging is the housing crisis, because when a woman gets the courage up to want to leave, then where is she going to go? Now there is a major investment that the government is putting into refuge development, but it's no use building refuges if there's nowhere for women and children to go after the refuge"
