Gardaí say hospitals attract all kinds of incidents due to their stressful nature.
Hospital Watch which is already in place at Cork University Hospital, the Mercy and the Bons, has now been expanded to include Marymount University Hospital and Hospice.
Speaking to RedFM News, Superintendent Finbarr O’Sullivan says a Garda presence at hospitals will increase the safety of patients and staff:
"People are stressed, there's trauma, particularly with the palliative care unit at Marymount, it can be very difficult for families and the smaller issues of incidents in the car park, minor theft, people threatening staff, so we can deal with a range of stuff in the hospital."
