The Agriculture Minister has announced heightened poultry biosecurity regulations to protect poultry and captive birds from bird flu
The measures, which will come into effect next Saturday are being introduced in the wake of two outbreaks of Avian flu in Cork and one at Omagh in Co Tyrone
Eleven cases of Avian flu have been identified in the Greylag Geese population at Fota Wildlife Park which has resulted in the temporary closure of the attraction
Minister Martin Heydon says the risk of bird flu is increasing as winter approaches due to the seasonal migration of wild birds to Ireland and the disease can survive for longer at lower temperatures
Members of the public are reminded not to handle sick or dead wild birds
