A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help an 18 year old seriously injured in an assault in Bishopstown on Saturday night.

Gardai are investigating the assault which happened shortly before midnight on Saturday night outside a petrol station in Curraheen.

The young man was seriously injured during the incident after coming to the aid of his cousin.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics from the ambulance service and taken to Cork University Hospital for further treatment.

A Go Fund Me has now been set up to help the 18 year old to rebuild his smile after the attack.

They have raised over €2500 so far and have set a target of €10,000.

Louise, a close family member described his injuries to the Neil Prendeville Show on Cork's RedFM:

"There is not one tooth that's not broken. So you know, just to get his smile back you know. He has a broken nose, no fractures to the face but again he has a large scare across his forehead, for the rest of the life also. Yeah, he's just complete swelling now, all black and blue, he's so puffy looking."
