Gas Networks Ireland says the prison sentence and fines handed down to a Cork couple for tampering with a gas meter sends out a strong message

Cornel and Lina Rostas, with an address at 24 Orchard Court, Blackpool, pleaded guilty and were convicted on charges of unlawful interference with a gas meter and the dishonest use of gas.

Speaking to RedFM News Owen Wilson of Gas Networks Ireland says he hopes the verdict will act as a strong deterrent

"A prison sentence is very serious. Theft of gas is very serious, but far more serious is the risk to life that tampering poses, not just to he person doing the work, but to anybody in the house to neighbours to passers by to anybody around. It's a serious crime, and it's got serious consequences. And this prison sentence sends out to that message"
