Gardaí responded to reports of a man with a gun at a house in Carrigaline at around 7pm last night.
Gardaí from Carrigaline along with local Detectives and the Armed Support Unit from Anglesea Street in the city responded.
A teenager was arrested at the scene and is being questioned at a Garda Station in Cork, while Gardaí have seized an imitation firearm.
Separately on the northside of the city, Gardaí are investigating after a gun was fired at an unoccupied house in Hollyhill.
No injuries were reported in the late night incident.
