Gardaí investigating the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier in West Cork almost 26 years ago say they are identifying new witnesses "almost on a weekly basis" since the cold case review was established in June this year.

At a press briefing yesterday in Schull, Gardaí say they have identified witnesses in Ireland, France and the UK in relation to the investigation into the murder of the French TV producer in December 1996.

Gardaí are seeking anyone who met, spoke or had any interaction with Sophie from the time she arrived in Ireland on the 20th of December to the time of her death and say they are certain that someone knows something that could help them to resolve the case.

They are also asking anyone who was in the Toormore area or who travelled the road from Ballydehob to Goleen and the road from Durrus to Goleen between the 20th and the 23rd of December 1996 to come forward.

Superintendent Joe Moore says locals have been very willing to help with the investigation.

The number for Bantry Garda Station is 027 208 60.

The Garda Confidential Line can be contacted on 1800 666 111.
