The man was the only occupant of a van that crashed at Gleann at around 9:45 and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The road is currently closed for a technical examination and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing to any one who was travelling in the area between 9:30 and 10am this morning to contact Clonakilty Garda Station on 023 882 15 70.
Anyone with dashcam footage from the area is also being asked to make the footage available to Gardaí.
