Some staff at fuel stations have been verbally abused by customers over the cost of fuel prices.

That's according to Fuels For Ireland who say the Government could have been clearer on how cuts to excise duty was going to effect prices at the pump.

Last Wednesday night the Government said their would be a reduction in the prices of Petrol and Diesel from midnight and staff at fuel stations across Ireland say customers were angry when they didn't see an immediate change.

Speaking to RedFM News, CEO of Fuels For Ireland, Kevin McPartland says while people are fed up about the price of fuel, its not fair to take it out on staff:

"We get it fuel prices are very, very expensive right now. And it's entirely beyond our control. That's a global market is doing that, our staff have absolutely a right not to be abused, threatened and salted because they were doing their job. The Government had actually misled people in telling them that they could expect to see reductions in prices from midnight on Wednesday night because all of the fuel that was held in forecourts at midnight last Wednesday,  had the excise duty paid at the higher level."
