Fórsa conference backs emergency motion for improved protections for library staff following growing threat of harassment and intimidation by anti LGBTQ+ protestors

Protestors have entered a number of libraries across the country including in the city in recent months to object to books with LGBTQ+ content.

The union are calling on local authorities to undertake an immediate health and safety risk assessment including the threat posed by protestors.

Fórsa say they will also engage with the Gardaí to highlight any threats and agree emergency measures to protect staff, users and books.

Paula Courtney works in a library in Cork and is the County Chair of the Cork Health and Local Government division of Fórsa.

Speaking to RedFM News, Paula says staff find it particularly distressing to be filmed by the protestors:
