A former Deputy Chairman at An Bord Pleanala, Paul Hyde, is to appeal a two month jail sentence for breaching planning guidelines and regulations.
The 50-year-old of Castlefields, Baltimore, County Cork pleaded guilty on Tuesday to making false or misleading declarations of interest to the planning authority.
He's allowed remain on bail, pending his appeal, after today's hearing at Bandon District Court.
Southern Correspondent with the Irish Independent, Ralph Riegal, says Judge James McNulty outlined his reasons for the sentence:
"An Bord Pleánala held a quasi judicial role in Irish society. It was the avenue of appeal for citizens in terms of planning matters. And it also had a very powerful and influential role in determining developments within society and the health and well being of the economy. And he said in that instance, he said it had to be marked by a custodial sentence and he imposed a two month prison sentence on Mr. Hyde."
