Footfall in the city centre has returned to pre Covid levels however business owners say they're continuing to face challenges due to high energy costs.

The City's Lord Mayor, President of the Cork Business Association and a number of public representatives held a walkabout in the city yesterday to meet with business owners.

Traders raised issues such as security and called for more Gardaí on the beat, car parking difficulties along with skills availability
They also called for more incentives to be introduced to encourage more private development in the city.

Speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor Cllr Deirdre Forde says she believes the upcoming developments in the city should help to attract more people into the city.

"We're going to the develop the Bishop Lucy Park. We are currently working very hard on the Victorian quarter Macurtain Street. We have the Crawford Art Gallery redevelopment and hopefully we can get the extra 5 million to tie in the upgrade of Emmet Place. We're looking for funding obviously for the New City Library. And South Main Street, Tuckey Street, The Counting House and the building of the two pedestrian bridges, that will start before the end of the year."
