Firefighters think they're close to reaching an agreement on the reopening of Ballincollig fire station.
It comes as they're back before the Workplace Relations Commission today to discuss reopening the station which has been closed since November 2021.
City Councillors voted against the reopening after they were told that annual funding of €4.6m is needed for the fire station.
However firefighters say they are surprised by the figures and believe they may have been drawn up on the basis of 40 firefighters stationed at Ballincollig which is not what SIPTU is calling for.
Speaking to RedFM News, SIPTU rep and Cork City Firefighter Billy Crowley says he's optimistic they can come to an agreement on reopening today.t
"I think we made great progress at the last one. Obviously the proposal was rejected by firefighters because there were a couple of red lines in it.
"We're looking for 24/7 cover for Ballincollig to cover the southern and western parts of the city.
"I think we've come a long way, there's just a short bit of work to be done to get this over the line."
