Firefighters are continuing to battle a house fire in Charleville but Fire Control say strikes by the service are making it complicated.

The alarm was raised this morning as locals spotted the well developed blaze on Smiths Road.

It's believed the house was derelict and no injuries have been reported.

In a statement to RedFM News, Fire Control said that 5 units were assigned to the call but the strikes by the Fire Service mean that 4 units from Mallow will now leave the scene and 2 units from Rathkeale will have to replace them.

It comes as retained firefighters at half the country’s fire stations are on strike since Tuesday after no agreement was reached in a row over pay and conditions.

SIPTU SAY Strikes will continue until Monday night, when a full strike will begin at midnight unless the dispute is resolved and the Government address increasing the base rate of pay and address issues with recruitment, pensions and annual leave.
