Family whose baby's organs were incinerated following her stillbirth at CUMH start petition calling for publication of the Human Tissues Bill

A family whose baby's organs were incinerated in Belgium following her stillbirth at Cork University Maternity Hospital have started a petition calling on the Department of Health to publish the Human Tissues Bill.

Laura and Fintan Kelleher who live in Australia are one of the 18 families whose babies organs were incinerated without their knowledge at the start of the pandemic.

The family say the Bill- which requires consent for any activities involving human organs and tissues- will ensure that "a tragedy like the one that occurred in 2020 will never happen again".

The Bill was due to be published at the end of last year, however it's now due to come before the Dáil before Christmas.

Cork Senator Tim Lombard previously raised the issue with the Minister for Health and he told RedFM News that it's a very frustrating time for the families involved:
