An East Cork based poultry farmer is worried the bird flu outbreak at Fota Wildlife park will negatively impact his turkey business
The Wildlife Park has been closed to visitors since last week after samples taken from captive birds that died there tested positive for avian flu
Speaking to RedFM News Robert Fitzsimmons who owns East Ferry Farm is concerned the disease could spread to his flock and says he's been advised by local officials to keep his turkeys indoors
"But for us, I suppose, look it is a business. We rear turkeys here on East Ferry Farm on the edge of Cork Harbour, and we're only a couple of miles as t he crow flies from Fota. Our turkeys are currently locked in and there's minimal traffic in and out to them. And that's where we are - we are in lockdown"
