East Cork has been left without a full suite of essential mental health services since the closure of Owenacurra Mental Health centre two years ago
Construction is set to begin at the centre this month despite the HSE committing to re-opening it by March of this year
Maureen O'Sullivan's brother is a former resident of the centre who has been accommodated locally - however she told RedFM News the absence of a replacement for the centre has had a huge impact on the community
"The day service is gone, you know, there was always kind of a drop in service for people. So the absence of a replacement for that centre during all this time is a huge concern, because I mean mental health isn't just something that concerns my brother, and a small cohort of people, it's something that concerns everyone"
