A €7m Cyber Innovate programme was launched by Munster Technological University today

It’s hoped the investment will help the formation of new companies and create more jobs by giving people with an entrepreneurial itch grants of €38,000

Speaking to RedFM News, Donna O’Shea from MTU says the project will boost entrepreneurship and cyber security in Ireland over the next 6 years:

"Cyber innovation is all about investing in people investing in people with an entrepreneurial itch, supporting them financially to step out of our current roles with a tax free scholarship of38,000 to become highly skilled innovators in cybersecurity."

The Minister for Enterprise says Cork is a national centre for cyber security excellence.

Speaking to RedFM News Minister Simon Coveney says MTU has shown great promise as a university by securing the investment:

"Cyber innovation is all about investing in people investing in people with an entrepreneurial itch, supporting them financially to step out of our current roles with a tax free scholarship of 38,000 to become highly skilled innovators and cybersecurity.

"The fact that MTU have won this tender because this was a competitive process, actually to get this money to make sure that that they're the university that's hosting this Cyber Innovate program and getting the €7m I think is confirmation that actually Cork is a national center now for cybersecurity excellence and we're going to build on that in the future."
