A decision on whether firefighters in the city will step up their industrial action is expected to be made known this afternoon
Fire crews who are members of SIPTU have been protesting outside Anglesea Street Fire Station for over a month before their shifts to highlight a long-running row over staffing at Ballincollig Fire Station.
Efforts to recruit retained firefighters for the station that closed in November 2021 have been unsuccessful, meaning crews from the city centre are being tasked to respond to emergency calls in the Ballincollig area.
Firefighters have expressed concern about the arrangement and say their resources are being spread too thinly.
It's expected a proposal from the City Council will be put to firefighters this afternoon which will determine their next course of action
