Current J1 visa holders should not be hit by the US pause on foreign student visa interviews.
Around 5,000 Irish students avail of the J1 initiative every summer and at this stage very few students are at the beginning of their visa applications.
Michael Doorley owns SAYIT Travel - a Cork based travel company which specialises in student travel - he told RedFM News it will only impact students who make a late decision to start the application process
"At this stage, practically all the students who want to go have had their interview or are already on the books to be interviewed, so they're all okay. I think it will affect, if anyone decided later on that they wanted to try and go to America on a J1 then they would be slowed down. But for all the other students who intend going, they're okay, they'll get there"
