A Cork woman who survived a prolonged campaign of harassment says victims of crime have to walk a lonely road to justice
Laura O'Connell says she had to rebuild her life after being harassed by Sonya Egan from Lios Cara, Kileens in Co Cork who was released from prison in August after serving her sentence
Laura is calling on the State to provide supports for home security systems and therapy for stalking victims
She is urging the Justice Minister to set up a panel to devise supports for victims of stalking as she says her perpetrator had access to free psychological and educational supports in prison while she was left unsupported
Speaking to RedFM News she says her recent meeting with the Justice Minister was disappointing as he's putting the onus on victims to campaign for change
"I really do feel the State can come in here and do a little bit better. If politicians are able to access a grant for their personal security, all I'm asking for here is just for a bit more personal security and maybe contribute to a couple of expert psychological sessions"
