Cork Trooper Shane Kearney who was injured while on duty in South Lebanon last December is returning to Dublin's Beaumont Hospital to continue his medical treatment.
Private Kearney, who is from Killeagh in East Cork sustained a serious head injury in an incident in a village in South Lebanon on the 14th of December last.
He was serving as a UN peacekeeper in the Middle Eastern country when his armoured vehicle convoy was attacked.
He has been recovering at home in Cork for the past two months after he was released from hospital and has been making steady progress to date.
The Defence Forces have issued an update on Shane's recovery and say he will now undergo cranioplasty surgery in Beaumont which should hopefully be the final operation that he requires.
The statement adds that Shane's colleagues in the Defence Forces are thinking of him at this time and are wishing him a speedy recovery.
