Diageo has announced a 6 cent plus VAT increase to the cost of its products from April 15th.

The company makes beers like Guinness, Smithwick's and Hop House 13.

Speaking to RedFM News VFI Cork chairperson Michael O'Donovan says some publicans are on the brink as they struggle with rising costs:

"That is rise is going to be something in the region of 15 to 20c which is something we never like doing, but costs have just been spiralling for the last number of months. A person might have gone out twice a week prior to this, whereas now with another price increase, they may only go out once a week and that has a major impact on the bottom line of any pub."
