Cork Penny Dinners is launching a brand new Concert Orchestra in the city.
The charity already established the hugely successful High Hopes Choir in 2016.
The Orchestra will be made up of both experienced amateur and professional Cork Musicians from across Cork - who will perform alongside people who have never played an instrument before but have always wanted to learn, and alongside those who have not played in a long time.
Volunteer Co-Ordinator at Cork Penny Dinner, Caitriona Twomey says many of their people "have not had the opportunity, notwithstanding their talent, to nurture ... their [musicality] ... for their own
good and the good of others."
Speaking to RedFM News, one of the co-ordinators of the Cork Penny Dinners High Hopes Orchestra, Brian Murphy says there is a call-out to musicians of any standard, nationality, colour or race, to join support what they hope will be be the most important Orchestra in the country:
"The aspiration is that the orchestra is open to anybody who has a desire to play a musical instrument or who has played a musical instrument in the past and doesn't play now. In the second instance, it's open to any players , professional and amateur, who will come in to lend their weight to the orchestra, and the orchestra is open to everybody. Everybody is welcome. And the idea that we provide a forum for people who don't have past experience to be able to be part of that journey as well - to absorb those players into its wider ranks. That there's a home for everybody in there".
