Hotels across Cork are facing a very challenging winter.

That's according to Michael Magner of the Vienna Woods Hotel in Glanmire.

Businesses across Cork are feeling the pinch as the Cost of Living Crisis takes money out of the consumer's pockets.

The Government Chief Whip, Deputy Jack Chambers says there will be a 'pandemic level response' to the cost of living crisis.

7 billion euro has been earmarked, along with an additional cost of living package.

There's widespread speculation that households are to get 600 euro in energy credits over six months.

Speaking to RedFM News, owner of the Vienna Woods Hotel in Glanmire Michael Magner says rising costs and falling occupancy rates could drive the situation out of control:

"Unfortunately, we're facing a very, very challenging winter. The outlook is concerning as well from a recent Irish Hotel Federation survey. occupancy rates across Ireland for the month of November, are forecast currently at 23% and 18% in December. Typically they will be running at approximately 15% ahead at this stage. So again, there's concerns as we go into the winter and we fear that if prices continue to increase, it could go out of control."
