Cork is hosting Ireland's first big festival in 18 months as the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is in full swing.

Organisers of the Festival, pride themselves on bringing Jazz to the people and this year is no exception with visiting international bands touring the city as part of the Beat on the Street.

The Big Fringe will also see lots of mostly free outdoor events such as Jazz at the Plaza at Emmett Place.

More than 60 venues across Cork city, Kinsale and Douglas will be hosting a variety of jazz acts from across Ireland and beyond.

Speaking to RedFM News Fiona Collins of the Cork Jazz Festival Committee says the city is abuzz with activity:

"But some of my favourite stuff is the stuff that people don't expect like the bands popping off on the street, and being able to find music wherever you go, the stage on Emmet Place and just being able to stand outside and listen to music. But it's also the atmosphere and the vibe on the street, around cork, just being able to take all of that in, and just have that kind of happy feeling for the weekend."
