Cork GAA and the Board of Páirc Uí Chaoimh stadium are seeking an urgent meeting with the City Council.

It comes following the refusal by Cork City Council's Planning Department of a proposed redevelopment at the stadium.

Management had sought permission to build car parks at either end of the 4G all weather pitch, however the plans proved controversial with locals.

They say they are surprised and extremely disappointed by the decision,

And believe the "outright refusal" raises serious and immediate questions about the safety of the existing vehicular access to Páirc Uí Chaoimh via the pedestrianised Marina.

Meanwhile, the Ballintemple Area Residents Association has welcomed the decision.

They submitted a 25 page objection to the plans, saying that they had concerns about the level of traffic in the area and the loss of the green spaces at either end of the stadium.
