A Cork cyber security firm says hacking attempts on critical infrastructure across the world has increased by 70% in the past year.
It's believed the huge increase in attacks on operational technology and industrial control systems is related to geopolitical issues such as the war in Ukraine.
12 ministries in Norway- which is a major gas producing country- were targeted by a cyber attack last week.
Speaking to RedFM News CEO of Smarttech247 Raluca Saceanu says she expects the attacks to increase over the next year:
"We haven't seen a catastrophic critical infrastructure attack in the last few weeks. However, it's important to note we could be expecting such attacks in the next few months, especially as the tensions are escalating. We're also seeing a lot of these attacks increasing due to the nature of the political tensions and the fact that we're going to have a lot of elections."
