Cork City firefighters have voted against Workplace Relations Commission proposals to end an industrial dispute over the future of Ballincollig Fire Station.

Firefighters who are part of SIPTU were invited to talks with the City Council after crews began industrial action in April.

The group say some progress was made during the talks and have confirmed that they will not be escalating their action for the moment.

Crews are warning that their resources are being stretched by the requirement to provide cover for Ballincollig and the surrounding area.

Speaking to RedFM News, SIPTU rep and Cork City Firefighter Billy Crowley says morale is low:

"This is dragging on now. Everybody knows what's needed to resolve, this could be resolved at the stroke of a pen. The counsellors have stepped up they've told the council what they think the people of Cork have stepped up and told the council what they think and I think it's time now for this to be resolved."
