Firefighters in the city say they want concrete proposals from the Council to solve a row over Ballincollig fire station before they agree to meet for talks.
Crews who are members of SIPTU have been demonstrating outside the station before their shifts for almost two weeks to highlight what they say is the lack of urgency in staffing Ballincollig Fire Station.
Firefighters from the city claim that being tasked to respond to emergency calls in the Ballincollig area is delaying their response times to other calls and is putting lives at risk.
The City Council say they are available to discuss the matter, however SIPTU say any further discussions are pointless without the Council offering a solution to staffing for Ballincollig.
Speaking to RedFM News, SIPTU rep and Cork City firefighter Billy Crowley says firefighters who were balloted for industrial action in March last year are getting frustrated by the lack of progress:
"At the time we took our ballot for industrial action, we also took a ballot for strike action, and that was supported with an overwhelming majority.
"Every day this goes on there are more and more calls from the firefighters to escalate this.
"We're hopeful that we get a proposal soon that prevents u from having to take any further action, but at this stage we have to start thinking about contingencies."
