Fire fighters from Cork City Fire Service have called off a planned industrial action which was due to begin on Friday.

Members of the service met at the Anglesea Street fire station in the past hour after the City Council said it had requested the help of the Labour Court to solve a long running dispute.

The dispute began in 2019 when Ballincollig became part of the city and responsibility for covering the area was moved from Cork County Council to Cork City Council...

Members of the City Fire Service say Ballincollig Fire Station should be reopened and staffed by a local part-time retained service.

Speaking to RedFM News, fire fighter and union rep Billy Crowley says they are looking forward to entering into talks with the council:

"So based on what was decided today by City Council, we've decided to cancel our industrial action it was based on the fact that council had refused to attend the Labour Court, now that they've decided to go to the Labour Court we essentially have no grounds for action and are looking forward to attending the Labour Court."
