Cork City Council has established a taskforce to tackle vacant sites in the city
The City's Lord Mayor says the Council wants to see action taken on these sites in an effort to rejuvenate the city centre
Just last month the Council was urged to address the dereliction of the city’s quay areas, including Patrick’s Quay and to consider the development of temporary amenity sites in these areas
City Council says it is actively working with landowners with a view to removing the dereliction.
Speaking to RedFM News Lord Mayor Cllr Deirdre Forde says they do not want to see any vacant sites in the city centre.
"We have recently constituted a core group our officials contacting all these commercial entities and asking them what's the blockage? You have planning permission. There are sites in our city. what is the problem? We want to work with you to get action. We do not want to see vacancy in our city centre. And we can by all working together we will we can make Cork as famous officially as anywhere in the world."
