32 percent of the drug and alcohol treatment charity’s service users are women, while 68 percent are men.

The charity says the figures don't mean that less women struggle with addiction.

Speaking to RedFM News Brian Duncan of Coolmine says people with children find it hard to reach out for help

"It tends to be more difficult for women to access services, particularly mothers can find it very difficult to reach out. There can be a lot of fear in terms of child protection, the kind of services getting involved or just the barriers of accessing residential treatment if they have kids at home"
