Concern's being raised for smaller members in the hospitality industry if the tourism VAT rate goes up.

The Government's considering whether to increase the rate from 9% to 13.5%.

It comes ahead of a decision on the cost of living measures at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Fota Island Resort General Manager John O'Flynn says smaller businesses like pubs would struggle with a higher VAT rate:

"The independently owned bars, restaurants and coffee shops. They're a key part of our industry, a key part of the attraction that makes Ireland such an attractive place to visit for foreign tourists. And if this extra cost on top of these businesses would question the viability of them, and if we don't have these businesses, we don't have a hospitality industry going forward. So that's my key concern".
