A recent survey carried out by the Coach Tourism and Transport Council found that 84% of private operators do not expect to financially recovered from the pandemic in the next year.

The group have described the results of the survey as 'bleak' and say the lack of confidence is having a knock on impact on the retail and hospitality sectors.

They're calling for continued supports for the industry as the summer season ends.

Speaking to RedFM News, Derry Cronin of Cronin's Coaches says while many operators saw a large increase in bookings, much of that business didn't materialise in the end:

"It's frustrating, but it's hopeful at the same time. It's frustrating, it's a seasonal business, normally, it'll be all over by November, I think this year what we have for September and the first part of October and it will be over. And we won't see it again until next May. But we have been well supported to get to here, I think the key thing really is the final push on that support, because I still would have confidence that when it rebounds, it will rebound quickly. We've been very successful with the vaccinations: that will instil confidence."
