Climate Minister Eamon Ryan says excise and VAT measures on fuel are likely to increase again in March.
A number of reductions were introduced during 2022 to address the rising cost of petrol, diesel and home heating oil.
The cost of these fuels at the pump though has fallen in recent weeks due to increases in supply.
Hauliers say if the support measures are ended consumers will see price rises at shops and supermarkets.
Minister Ryan says however special measures may be introduced to assist the haulage sector:
"One of the things that may help us is we agreed last week to do a further measure to help the haulage industry, with an 18 million euro scheme which is targeted at the smaller haulage operators. And that will kick in, around March."
