City firefighters say they are losing patience after almost two weeks of demonstrations

Fire crews who are members of SIPTU have been protesting outside Anglesea Street Fire Station before their shifts at 9am and 6pm to highlight a long-running row over staffing at Ballincollig Fire Station.
Efforts to recruit retained firefighters for the station that closed in November 2021 have been unsuccessful, meaning crews from the city centre are being tasked to respond to emergency calls in the Ballincollig area.
Firefighters have expressed concern about the arrangement and say their resources are being spread too thinly.
The City Council says they have invited SIPTU to talks and say management are disappointed that union members have chosen to mount industrial action when the Council had already made itself available for discussions.
