Ann Doherty led a delegation from the City Council to the local authority houses on Noonan's Road last evening.
The Council CEO met residents from Noonan's Road and neighbouring local authority housing on St Finbarr's Road, Fort Street and Dean Street.
The residents say many of their homes are damp and full of mould, with huge cracks across exterior walls and lumps of concrete falling off exposing rusted wire frameworks underneath.
They also complain of rats in the area as many of the flats are vacant and the gardens are overgrown and filled with rubbish as they are being used as a dumping ground.
Speaking to the Neil Prendeville Show on her visit to Noonan's Road Ann Doherty says she's hopeful that the right solution can be found so everyone can work together to get the flats refurbished.
"We all want the right thing for here, and in fairness the elected members have been on about getting the right solution, that everyone can work together on.
"I'm very hopeful that it can happen now."
