Carlow Weather says parts of West Cork should have been upgraded to a Status Red warning for rain yesterday.
109 millimetres of rainfall was recorded at Glengarriff Weather Station during yesterdays Yellow alert ahead of Storm Amy making landfall.
Cork County Council is urging care after severe damage was caused to road surfaces in Borlin and Castledonovan. Extensive flooding has been reported alongside the road from Kealkill to Ballylickey and there's a tree down blocking access at Castlelands, Kinsale.
Speaking to RedFM News, Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather says a red alert should have been in place to prevent people from driving through flooded roads in Glengarriff:
"When it became clear yesterday that the rainfall in Glengarriff was already over 50 to 60 millimeters, with another eight hours of rain to come, I think a localised red warning should have been issued for the Glengarriff area, because I've seen reports of cars being submerged in floods in a matter of minutes due to intense flooding in that area"
